Excellent player who didn’t play in the greatest of Wigan teams…had a great rugby brain

Brilliant centre with a devastating sidestep – Yorkshire lad
Served Wigan well for many years before doing a similar job for Saints
When finished playing he coached at St Judes where he was well respected by all
Heard at the Lions Luncheon in Wigan recently that he had not been well
Close friend of Colin Clarke
Sad loss indeed
God Bless you Bill and thanks for the memories

Outstanding winger and centre of the late sixties to the late seventies during a period of limited success of the club.

RIP Bill.

Played on the wing at the latter end of the 1967/68 season and all the early part of the following season until January when the club signed Keri Jones from Cardiff RU.

His partnership on the wing with Peter Rowe as his centre was legendary

I think he played on the wing after Billy Boston retired.

After 1968/69 season when Ashton retired, Francis was more well known for his pairing with Peter Rowe in the Centres, but only for a couple of seasons or so untill Rowe retired.
